Mission participated in the opening Ceremony of the Police Middle Management Course (PMMC) organised by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) for mid-level officers of the Senegalese Police Force. The Head of Mission, H.E Vivian Asempapa delivered the opening statement on behalf of Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong, Acting Commandant of the KAIPTC. The Middle Management Course was developed from the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework (ECPF), adopted in 2008, ECOWAS and aimed at strengthening the human security architecture to guarantee peace and security during conflict and disaster situations in West Africa and Africa as a whole. The course focuses on the training and equipping of multi-purpose and composite standby units comprising of the Military, Police and Civilian components in Member States within the framework of the African Standby Force [ASF].
The training course aims at equipping personnel with the requisite knowledge and skills for the attainment of the goals of both the ECOWAS Standby Force and the African Standby Force by closing the gap between the strategic, operational and the tactical levels of international policing. and thereby fulfilling the ECOWAS objective of maintaining a roster of high calibre officers for middle and command levels of UN/AU/ECOWAS multidimensional peace support operations. The KAIPTC with support from the German Foreign Ministry conducts Police Middle Management Courses for police personnel in different countries the ECOWAS Sub-Region.
